Guest columnist. After more than 90 years of a fruitful and diverse life, from his native Buenos Aires, the illustrious Guillermo Lousteau Heguy departed to meet us in eternity.
Lousteau, who received military instruction during his secondary studies, was a high-ranking academic: lawyer, doctor of law, philosopher, professor, and even university dean and rector (in addition to being a renowned tourism entrepreneur).
His editorial work is copious, highlighting the books: "Hispanic American Political Thought", "Democracy and Constitutional Control", "Majority Societies and Societies by Consensus"...
In Florida, USA, he developed a versatile and useful approach. He was the founding president of the Inter-American Institute for Democracy (IID), an organization that has had other important presidents: Carlos Alberto Montaner, Maurice Ferré, Carlos Sánchez Berzaín, and Tomas Regalado.
He was also the promoter and leader of the Argentine Cultural Center (CCA), along with prominent figures such as Roberto Macho, Mónica Prandi, María Teresa Arenas...
I want to express to his children Martín and María, both public servants, and to his wife Marta, a businesswoman, that I owe Lousteau an intellectual debt: an understanding of the value of the alliance between academics and politicians. The former should focus on creating transcendent ideas, while the latter are responsible for finding ways to implement them.
