Guest columnist. From the Sierra Maestra mountains themselves, Fidel Castro, the self-proclaimed mastermind behind the project, declared that upon the end of the war against Fulgencio Batista, a greater struggle against the United States would begin for him, a struggle he described as his "true destiny." Castroism, not Cuba itself, is a constant and permanent threat to the security of this nation.
It is a historical truth that the island's totalitarian system viscerally hates this country for representing all the values it opposes. Its vast totalitarian experience in political manipulation makes it an extremely dangerous enemy, a circumstance exacerbated by its complete lack of scruples and practice of provoking conflicts, regardless of how disastrous the consequences may be for Cubans.
The followers of Castroism will always work to destroy this nation, a task in which they will seek the help of those who share that animosity, while they continue to plant spies in US territory in search of information that will facilitate its ruin, as well as that of its most relevant allies, among which we must include the Cuban exile community.
Simultaneously, totalitarianism always tries to accentuate its periodic crises with the United States, confident in the view shared by some that the conflict is between Goliath against a meek David who perpetually presents himself as a lamb who simply refuses to be made into stews.
Let us remember that the mid-air murder over international waters of the four crew members of the Brothers to the Rescue aircraft occurred when President Bill Clinton was facing the decision of whether or not to sign the Helms-Burton Act; furthermore, the Mariel boatlift was provoked under the mandate of President Jimmy Carter, a leader who attempted to normalize relations and reduce the embargo.
The agents of Castroism operating in this country are more than aware that, although there are servile compatriots, ready to betray and kill, there is no shortage of Cubans willing to risk their lives to end the tyranny; therefore, it is to be believed that they have had some participation in the recent ambush and criminal machine-gunning of the expedition that transported a dozen patriots to Cuba.
The recent incursion into Cuba by several compatriots willing to give their lives in defense of their convictions is nothing new, nor is it new that the Castro regime presents itself to the people it misgoverns and to the world as a victim of the United States, accusing Washington of being responsible for several of its citizens entering the island's territorial waters, because as José Martí said, "When there are many men without honor, there are always others who possess the honor of many men!"
The first known naval expedition to overthrow the nascent totalitarian regime dates back to October 1960. A vessel carrying more than 20 men arrived on Cuban shores. Commanded by Armentino "El Indio" Feria, 10 of the expeditionaries were executed on the orders of Raúl Castro, including three American citizens, at least one of whom was a Korean War veteran.
There have been many expeditions led by exiles and numerous deaths in combat, executions, and imprisonments, so it is appropriate to say that there has never been a shortage of Cubans willing to honor our national anthem which says: “To live in chains is to live, submerged in affront and disgrace. Hear the sound of the bugle. To arms, brave ones, run!”
To the pride of those of us born in Cuba, it is widely demonstrated that repression and indoctrination have not been enough to eliminate the yearning for freedom of the majority of our compatriots, as evidenced by the large number of young people who are in prison, plus those who wish to leave the country due to the deep frustration that consumes them, and by young people like these who, regardless of the manipulations of Castro's spies, risk their lives for their will to fight for the freedom and rights of Cubans.
The Castros, a high-flying mafia family, have conclusively demonstrated their exceptional skill in managing crises, and they are currently facing an extremely difficult situation due to their inability to resolve the population's most vital problems. Meanwhile, the majority of citizens are fed up with the accumulation of failures that totalitarianism has brought about. Their end is near.
