The candidate for the presidency of a Venezuela today severely mistreated, was responsible for closing the colloquium "Elections in dictatorship" sponsored by the Inter-American Institute for Democracy, a dynamic "Thought Center" in search of the integration of aspects of political science with reality, for which purpose it carries out academic research, seminars and events in a context of pluralism and tolerance, under the conviction that a more realistic discipline and better preparation for the exercise of political activity will emerge. Its founder, the prominent Bolivian politician Carlos Sánchez Berzain, today with the diligent cooperation of the wisdom, will and courage of the Venezuelan Beatrice Rangel, through whose veins politics has flowed in gushes and since she was a very young girl.
Whoever writes these words, proud to be a member of the Interamerican Board of Directors and to have been invited to the event, read the following considerations: "Allow me to refer to the lyrics that the Spanish José de Aguilar left us with the song "María Cristina loves me govern”, to replace “Cristina” with “Corina” and conclude with what seems like a cry from crowds of Venezuelans “María Corina wants to govern us”. It seems to be heard "she loves us and she must govern us."
The problem is how to achieve it. Disadvantages and options: 1. A polarized opposition, but also with a collectivized leadership, when it should have already consolidated a unitary block around it, popularly acclaimed, 2. The disqualification of which it has been a victim, which would be maintained, inclusive, with the ratification by other powers, including, as heard, high judicial authorities, 3. The Venezuelan people, believers in God fill the churches in a constant prayer and the Almighty, by intersection of the Virgin of Coromoto , "the patron", grants us grace and María Corina is the only Presidential candidate, supported with integrity by the entire opposition, after signing the guidelines for a social contract, such as the Punto Fijo Pact, which served as the basis for the democracy of 4 decades. The battle of the Caudine Forks, a military confrontation in 321 BC, between the armies of Rome and the Samnites, to electorally defeat the government candidate: 1. That the elections be transparent, 2. The takeover of the government, 3. The integration of a hyper-competent government, because what needs to be fixed is enough, 4. Keep in mind the questioning of democracy, today vociferated at the top of our lungs. It reads, in effect, "that it is not the only fair form of government." There is no page, no occasion, where he is not questioned. The challenge in the hands of the good sense of the Venezuelan. The very Caraqueñísima María Corina exhibited fluency in speaking, attitude in front of the cameras and courage to continue in her fight. But, in addition, knowledge in relation to the issues raised. She rules out "polarization" and recognized the legitimate right of the remaining candidates to aspire to the presidential candidacy, an appreciation opposed to what we call "the collectivization of the political leadership", whose evidence seems to be that 13 people, in addition to her, have formulated their aspirations. On her tours she has visited the most hidden corners of the country, perceiving in the faces of the people the anguish for a change and an undeniable enthusiasm for a helping hand. A presumption, perhaps, that they know that she is an "engineer" and therefore "handles the techniques that allow scientific knowledge to be applied to the use of matter and energy sources, through inventions or constructions useful to man", presuming, therefore, that it has to “calculate and build well”, imperative and urgent requirements that today's Venezuela urgently demands. Assume, therefore, that "the good-looking Sultana of Ávila" fully complies with the first condition that Rómulo Betancourt estimated as decisive for being President, that is, "wanting to be." The second, to enroll in Acción Democrática”, which unfortunately is not possible for reasons of force majeure. Two recommendations from that “titan”, with preparation, industriousness, courage and a high dose of leadership and pragmatism”, as we left written in our last book Papers? Some less serious than others”, with prologues by Beatrice Rangel and Álvaro Benavides La Greca.
María Corina, if we interpret her correctly, does not fear, either, the "disqualification" to which she has been subjected. Not only because of her “irritability”, but also because “the popular will” would pass over her, making her null. Her healthy disposition leads us to believe that she would promote a "national integration government" through an agreement such as the Chilean agreement or our own democracy pacts that we lost without realizing it. She is also aware of the critical manifestations of the latter, whose efficiency as a mechanism for the harmonious development of the peoples can be rescued. She feels confident that she will defeat Maduro in neat elections, taking possession of "Misia Jacinta" and that she and her collaborators analyze the guidelines of "a serious government program." A demonstration that democracy can be efficient is one of its challenges. She was convinced, it seems, of Winston Churchill's statement, for whom with the satire that characterized him he described democracy as the least bad of government systems. Today, by the way, that genius is quite lacking, with his country from prime minister to prime minister and doubts regarding the efficiency of the parliamentary regime.
Also taking part in the "colloquium" were Carlos Sánchez Berzaín, the Interamerican conductor and definer of the thesis of "narco-states" in Latin America, the President of Venamérica, Paciano Padrón, the journalist Alexis Ortiz, a youth companion of José de Aguilar, author of the song María Cristina wants to govern me, Ileana Lavastida, prominent newspaper journalist from Havana, Ricardo Israel, highly educated in political science and the producer of the program "The Devil's Advocate", Orlando Viera-Blanco. With sympathy and satisfaction the presence of Antonio Ledezma and his nice wife Mitzi. The Mayor of Caracas, as recently announced, coordinates Venezuelans abroad in support of the candidate.
The journalist Ortiz told us "sotto voce" that the intervention of "the candidate" reveals "a solid firmness", so before Aguilar's stanza "Let's go "to" the beach, take the suitcase, throw yourself in the sand, get on the bridge, throw yourself in the water”, there is no other choice but to answer “let's go”. Alternatives?, none.
The event, started with a loud voice and confidence by Beatrice Rangel, was closed by herself, with words full of hope for the future of our beloved Venezuela.
