“Ecuador: Drugs, Thugs, Guerrilla and the Citizens’s Revolution” is the third of the Democracy Papers and the second in a LASC series on the Bolivarian states in Latin America. It analyzes the rise of Rafael Correa as President of Ecuador and the subsequent relations with the United States, in a context of chaos and the “Citizens’ Revolution”. It examines the operations of the FARC in Ecuador, the terrorist group’s ties to senior members of the Correa administration and the growing role of Ecuador in transitional criminal networks.
